Steps

1. Heat olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. 2. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent. 3. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute, avoiding burning. 4. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, sugar, salt, pepper, and oregano. 5. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. 6. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of water to reach desired consistency. 7. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. 8. Remove from heat and stir in fresh basil leaves if desired. 9.
