Steps
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Lightly butter a small oven-safe dish or ramekin.
3. Arrange the sliced apples in the dish and sprinkle with half the cinnamon.
4. Cut the bread into cubes and layer over the apples.
5. In a bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, maple syrup, remaining cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
6. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and apples, pressing gently to soak the bread.
7. Let it sit for 5 minutes to absorb.
8. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until the custard is set and the top is golden.
9. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, and dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
